Question 1997 v6 auto slipping

I have a 97 f-150 supercab v6 auto.. 115k miles used in every day driving and pulling 18 ft bass boat maybe 2 times a month..
In the last 6 months it is "slipping" . driving down the road the
rpm's just shoot up to 4000 and then after letting off the gas it
goes back to normal. This happens maybe 2 times a week . The
only sign off something wrong is the o/d button flashes on and off. The tran. was serviced by a ford dealership at 100k miles .
Anybody had this problem before??????

Have you read the code that was set when the OD light flashed? That would be a real good clue as to what needs some attention.

I'll take an educated guess that the Transmission Range Sensor is failing. It's the sensor on the driver's side of the transmission, where the shift cable attaches.
