Question Grind???

Hiya,

I have a 98 4x4 manual with the 4.6 and 65k on the clock.

Here's my q... when I take off in 1st, I hear a slight grind coming from what sounds like the front end of the truck (but not entirely sure). Sounds like when you grind a normal gear in manual, but not as intense and it kinda fades away with no thunk or anything. This would make me suspect the trasfer case, but I dunno fer sure.. I hear it in 2x and 4 high, but dunno about in 4 low. (edit: I tested it in 4 low this afternoon and you can hear it grind slower and it lasts a little longer than in 2 or 4 high. I also happened to buy an extended 36/36 power train warranty that includes all interior lubed parts for the tranny and transfer case, would this possibly be included?).

BTW, 1st gear feels fine and I can feel it go all the way in....

Any tips?
