Unhappy Trans sticking in gear while in cruise?

I am in the middle of a cross country drive right now, and noticed something strange going on while the cruise is on. I would approach a hill and the trans would downshift out of OD like it's supposed to, but when the truck reached the top of the hill it wouldn't shift into OD again. If I hit the OD button off and on quickly, it would drop to the normal rpms for that speed. Is this a serious problem, or a warning of the trans about to die?? The fluid is a little tired looking, so I'll try that first I guess. So, is the trans about to give up??,,,,98

I also noticed lately that the trans will not downshift from OD when you hit the gas pedal(cruise not on). Does it sound like these two things are related???

That is not a transmission about to die. It is in the programming the controls the transmission. There might be updated software available at a dealer to fix that.

Thumbs up

Thanks Mark,
Actually I waited a little longer for it to upshift today, and it eventually did. It was taking longer than usual to do it, though. It's pretty spooky to be coming up on someones' rear end over the apex of a hill at full speed ahead The only problem I seem to have now is it not kicking down when you put your foot in it. It just stays in OD and lugs around trying to gain speed without a lower gear. This only happens sometimes, though. I am definitely getting a tranny flush and fill in the next few days!!!,,,,98
