Question Baumann Shift Settings

Ok, I'm not happy with my Baumann shift kit performance and I'm considering pulling the valve body to check things out. The shifts are "mushy", not the slide-bump and certainly not neck snapping. I've set it for level 4, but did option "B" for the 1-2 accumulator. What accumulator settings did those that used level 4 select? I'm thinking I need to go to option "C", but a little apprehensive about just leaving out a spring. I'm stock w/o a chip. Also, gas mileage has gone from 350 miles per tank to about 260!

A link that might be helpful, http://www.transonline.com, has a lot of info and good valve body pictures.

Any other thoughts for not getting the level 4 performance everyone else seems to be getting? Thanks. Mike

Mike-

Did you use the "LONG" main pressure regulator spring? My BE is set like this: Level 4, long MPRS, other settings on "B/supercharger", and includes the OD mod. Without the Superchip, it's firm, but not neck snapping (it does lay 1-2 scratch at WOT every time). With the standard Superchip added, it's more my style. Shifts are progressively hard at all throttle positions and spins the tires on 1-2 WOT; 2-3 WOT hits like a rock. The key is combining the two products; the shift kit cannot eliminate the electronic engine management limitations that the Superchip can.

Thanks Max

Thanks for the info! I pretty much decided I needed to go back in and add the long pressure reg spring. Nice to know setting "B" is correct. Did you use the recommended number of spacers or something different? Thanks again.

Mike-

You're Welcome !! On the 1-2 accumulator, I used the 1996+shims, then B/superchager-2 springs and one spacer. As far as the main pressure regulator spring goes, I used the long spring and the Sonnax valve. The warnings in the instructions are a bit much IMO.

Question Another question Max

The 3-4, 4-3 modulator instructions refer to two different springs. One spring is for normal app and another for correcting a "flare" downshift condition. Which one did you go with?
I agree, the instructions are on the conservative side and in sore need of updating. My theory is that the older vehicles had very low torque, but when modified their torque became comparable to the newer vehicles. After all this, I think I'll set up a Baumann shift kit install shop! Mike

Mike-

A "shop"= funny stuff . Really, they could update easily for everyone instead of letting everyone figure it out (Come on folks, can we say "word processor"). Anyway, the 3-4/4-3 upshift mentions 2 modifications. I installed 3 spacers in the 3-4 capacity modulator valve, since I used the long main pressure regulator spring. Next, I DID add the high-torque overdrive servo regulator spring. This spring simply replaces the factory one. I'm really pleased with my shifts when the Superchip is in; it's harsh the way I like it .

Thanks again Max!

Yeah, I thought about asking Greg to email the instructions in a file and I'd re-write them. For a fee! They need to pay some poor college kid $50 and get it updated.
You saved me another tear down as I would have NOT changed the OD servo spring. Jeeze! Let's make something simple complicated!!! Hey, at least I have nice clean trans fluid from all the re-dos...Thanks
