New truck and I have questions...

I just picked up a '02 150 w/ the FX4 package. Anyhow, I have heard that there have been some issues with the auto trannys. My question is, if so what is the issue(s) with these transmissions? What do I need to look for to indicate such a problem is coming on? And is there anything I can do to prevent any such future problems that may be out there?

Thanks for and info you may share.....and I must say its nice to own a truck again!

Aaron

I've also got an 02 FX4 and my truck has about 7000 to 7500 miles on it and it has been in the shop for almost a week. My problem was that shifting from reverse to drive, the truck would take an inordinate amount of time for the tranny to engage. If I pushed on the accelerator before 2 to 2 1/2 seconds, the engine reved up and the tranny finally caught and jerked. It did the same thing at stop signs and red lights, just not as bad.

I talked to the tech Friday afternoon and he said my truck was just waiting for the tranny to be put back in. He said that all he found was a seal or gasket (can't remember) at the pump that was blown. I'm assuming it was internal because no fluid has leaked out. I guess it was not allowing the line pressure to build to lock up the torque converter. I can't tell you which transmission I have because I don't have the truck here to look at the code, but on top of the bell housing, the number 40 is raised in quite big numbers.

The other shifts all seemed fine, BTW.

I haven't heard of of what you mentioned about transmission problems on these trucks. My previous truck was a 99 4x4 and had about 50K on it before I totalled it by rolling it several times. I had no problems with the truck, except for the stupid multi-function switch problem turning my wipers on whenever it wanted to.

Thumbs down Hmmmmm....I think you're causing trouble, Creole0323.

Inordinate???

You're just going to confuse people if you use such big words.

If you search the posts for rough idle, you'd have equal luck substituting "ruff". Ruff!!! Good dog....

Angry

I agree! We don't put up with that language around here! This isn't Creole0323's first offense either.

In another thread he said, "Let me reiterate.".

Well if you do buddy, you'll clean it up!

Normally I wouldn't mention this because I don't care if I'm personally attacked but, about six months ago Creole0323 called me the 'E' word. He called me the 'E' word and didn't get banned or sent to the Suspension Forum or nothin'.

That's right, he said I was egnorant.

Thanks Creole....

I've just heard several people complain of Ford truck auto trannys. Most commonly is that they are not built heavy enough and require a rebuild before 100k. Now, my dad on the other hand has had no problems at all with the exceptions that he had to take it in for a tune-up.

Anyhow if there is not overwhelming response to such a inquiry, then must not be that much a problem with them.

Oh Creole....use as many big words as you want buddy! I have a dictionary close at hand.

Why thanks Aaron

Aaron

Thanks for the vote of confidence on using "dem big words". Ask Raoul and he'll tell you us "southern boys" only use dictionaries to wipe our butts in the outhouse...

Actually, I was going to reply to your post with a bunch of big, long words, but I was afraid some of the aforementioned (see the big word) posters head just might explode trying to figure them out.

Besides, my dictionary in the outhouse is mostly used up...LOL...and us south Louisiana folks are just not accustomed (semi-big word...more than 8 letters) to using that kind of language.

Anyway, I actually have a reason that I'm posting a reply.

I got a call from the dealer today and the service advisor informs me that my truck is ready. You know, I had grown quite fond of the Explorer loaner they gave me. Anyway, my transmission is performing much, much better. I will be towing a trailer with a couple of ATVs and a lot of camping gear to Longview, Texas this Friday so I'll really give my truck hell for the next couple of days. I'll see how it holds up to make me feel safer in the fact that I won't get stranded somewhere in BFE.

Good luck with your new 02 F150!!

Creole

To bad we don't getthat big ol Sears and Robuck catalog anymore. Heck you could find ya a new outfit for the one you just messed getting to the outhouse, pick out your bedroom suit, make your x-mas wishlist, and then wipe your butt with it all when you realize who don't have the money.

This is thread has turned out to be very interesting.

Interesting

KY...yes, it has turned into an interesting thread.

BTW, I've had my truck back for several days and it seems to shift properly now. I've been driving it very hard to see if it will "act up".

I've also been looking into the Transgo shift kit and I asked Mike Troyer about a Superchip with only the improved shifting. I don't really want to run 93 octane all the time and I don't intend on racing people in my big heavy 4 door 4x4. Because of that, I think the flip-chip would also not suit my needs. I need to call Mike and check on price for the chip with all the delays and retards pulled out.

You can call Mike if you want to but, he can't have me an AjRagno removed. He has no editorial control over these threads.
