EXACTLY!!! That's exactly what I am experiencing! I am off to the dealer on Monday, and this will make a huge difference.

Thanks a million! Muchas, muchas gracias!!

You can not imagine how hard it is to figure out exactly which trucks get which tranny.
All Expys and Navis with the 5.4 get the 4R100
All Lightnings get the 4R100
Up until 97 or 98 almost all 5.4 F-150s got the E4OD (more or less the same as a 4R100)
Currently, if you have a 5.4 in an F-150 it depends on your emissions package, CAL doesn't always get a 4R100, but some do, several states get it in the 5.4, VA and a few in New England I think.
No 4.6L gets a 4R100, no 4R100s are built for the 4.6L engine
All Super Duty trucks get the 4R100

Also, there are this model year 32 versions of 4R100s, I won;t even try, but they're not interchangable for the most part. The Lightnings and Diesels get the strongest ones, but some of the 5.4 versions are very much lighter duty than the other models.
There are different clutches, planetary assemblies, accumulators drive configurations (4x2, 4x4, PTO etc..), cases (diesel, modular) and converters...it's pretty complicated.
The best way to tell is the code, or if all else fails, the 4R100 has 20 pan bolts, the 4R70 has a different number, but I don't know what it is.

hope this helps, I'm almost confused myself, now,

G
