Question New Transmissions any time soon?

I have a buddy here at work. He is starting to look into buying himself a f-350 super cab long bed, with the diesel. He is getting close to retirement and wants to tow a trailer with it. About 10-12 Klbs. His only concern was the 4R100 tranny. We use alot of these pickups here at work and seems the only thing that goes bad on them are the transmissions. He had heard (don't know from whom or where) that ford was thinking about going to the Allision Transmission soon? Any word on this? Any thoughts?
thanks

Ford's not going to the allison, they're rolling out a new tranny, 5R110W in diesels next year, gas the next year (or year after, depends).
