Will mustang gt trany bolt up to a 4.2?

I know the shifter won't fit in the stock hole in the floor...the reason is i'm asking this is that i'm doing a stock floor body drop this summer and want to push the motor forward a few inches to clear the firewall without cutting - which will move the shifter forward and I can't do that - so with the GT tranny (T-45?)with the shifter at the tail of the tranny will be perfect....I think?
