Unhappy HELP!! Truck stalls in Reverse

About 1.5 months ago, I installed the FT valve body (from Sal at PSP). After installing it, the truck would occasionally stall when put in reverse, about 1 in 4 times. I would have to give it alittle gas from stalling. This weekend, I reinstalled the stock valve body. But it's still stalling. The fluid level is fine and the truck runs fine as well. It's just when it's in Reverse, the truck will want to die. I do remember reading in the Lightning forums that someone recommended they don't use a chip and valve body or it could cause problems.

I contacted Factory_Tech who has been very helpful and professional about this matter. He even was kind enough to send me a replacement. Now I'm alittle worried it's something worse in the tranny. Any ideas!?!?

My 01 has been trying to stall, in reverse, since about 10K miles. However, I only experiance this problem, after towing or when it's extreamly hot outside. I have a lttle over a month and a half under waranty, but I can't duplicate the issue in cooler weather. It feels like the truck goes into reverse overdrive. Dealer doesn't seem to understand or is unaware of anything related to my description.

I would sure like to hear anyone's thoughts.

johnnymo,

My tranny just went out of my '99 and I was talking to a Transmission repair shop and he said that some of the Ford trannies are built in Europe or France, can't remember for sure, and that they are built with a 2spd reverse, and they use them over seas. He said they are notorious for being dogs and stalling out too. Maybe you have one of these trannies......

It is just a thought.

I'm probably way off base, and will probably be ridiculed for this post.

Thanks for the thought. My 01 is a Lightning, and I believe the trannies are built here. Another description of my problem is that it feels like the converter is trying to lock up when I put it in reverse. ( only when it's hot.)

THanks again

Check to determine if the motor mounts are defective by looking at the engine when an assistant shifts into reverse with the brake applied. Sometimes defective motor mounts allow the engine to shift putting tension on a critical wire or shorting something out. I had one vehicle that would stall in drive when the engine shifted and put tension on the intake air hose. This caused a tear in the hose to open and allow intake air to bypass the MAF sensor. Putting the vehicle in reverse caused the engine to shift in the opposite direction closing the tear in the hose. You may have the opposite effect.

Replace the solenoid valve body, F81Z-7G391-CA your converter clutch is not unlocking and this will stall the motor. A pice of dirt in the solenoid will cause one of the "gates" to stick open, letting pressure leak through to the TCC, it's not exactly common, but it does happen.

Factory Tech, thank you for the input. In fact I thank you all for the input. Does it matter that I only experiance this "reverse simi-lock-up" problem when the trans is very hot, like after towing a 23 ' boat 20 miles in 110 degree weather. Sometimes just city driving in 110 degree weather, will cause the problem. Should is be looking to better trans cooling? It doesn't seem like it as I don't know anyone else with this issue under the same conditions. Again, I will appreciate any input I receive.

(I will check the motor mounts first thing in the morning)

Thanks
johnnymo

Maybe related, but at times, by RPMs will drop to well below 500 (with some stalls) as I am slowing for a normal stop or to make a turn. Feels as if the TQ or something is not letting loose. If I turn off the OD, then it doesn't seem to have this problem.

I have the FT vavle body and the superchips microtuner. Is this a similar issue?
