Hooking digital speedo to old tranny

My 1992 f-150 has the newer electric speedometer, a wiring harness that hooks to the tranny instead of a cable. The problem is i am going from an e40d tranny to a 1980 4 speed out of a bronco. How do i hook up the speed? Will the electric pickup from the e40d bolt into the older tranny? Or do i need to install a different, cable driven speedo and odometer.
