That's a direct swap both physically and electronically. Something else is wrong. Check all your wiring.

I've been told by several people that you can only use 98 to swap 98 trans

I know that I should not, but I made an assumption from where he said he got a good transmission the same as his out of a 2000. If that's truly the case then they would have to be.

But, also if that is truly the case then it would work. Unless there is another problem.

If the 2000 transmission is out of a F150, it's 99% certain it's a 4R70W. However, a good portion of 98 F150's with 5.4's had an E4OD. An E4OD computer can't control a 4R70W.

Yes, like I said, I made an assumption based on his words of same as his. He didn't say a truck the same as his, he said a transmission the same as his.

I would hope that anyone could tell the difference between those 2 transmissions if they were doing the swap themselves. They don't look alike and they certainly don't weigh the same. If not then they are likely beyond any help we could offer them.
