I have a 2001 Ford F-150, it is the 7700 series 2x4. When it is cold it won't come out of second gear or go in reverse. Once it warms up it will go through all the gears, including reverse except for 1st gear. Would this be a solinoid problem?

If you don't have reverse then its highly likely it isn't just a solenoid issue.

As to what it is, its hard telling without the vehicle on hand to test. These are some really strange symptoms. Sounds like multiple issues. I would look to be checking everything about the fluid. Both level, smell and appearance.
