Fluid or oil on transfer case 04' F-150 FX4
Hey guys,
I was under my truck doing an oil change and noticed my transfer case was covered in fluid and there appeared to be some drops sitting where the linkage connects. I have a 2004 FX4 5.4 with 216,672 miles on it. I've owned it since new and all I've done with the trans is a flush at about 115k and kept fluids up. When it checked the fluids were low on the trans. Wondering if this is a seal that's gone? Anyone else has this? I can tell air from driving has blown the fluid around so the whole transfer case is covered.
Full view. Can't tell if it is coming from the top or what
There were some drops under the bolts on the black part where the linkage connects -- you can see the drop on the right one

Have you opened the fill plug on the transfer case? There is a seal between the transmission and transfer case, and if the seal goes fluid will pump from the transmission into the TC. You mentioned the transmission fluid was low, the fluid may have gone into the TC and it's overfilled, excess fluid comes out the vent. If you open the fill plug on the TC and fluid pours out, this is what happened.
