VSS on Transfer Case leaking?

01 F-150 4.6L 5-speed 4x4. It looks to me like the VSS on the rear top of the Borg Warner 4406 transfer case is leaking. Looks like the sensor in internal and the wire comes out through the case, but it is leaking and I'm not sure how to address it unless it requires dropping it, splitting the case, and pulling the sensor out. Is that about right or is there a short cut? Thanks!

clean it and put a dab of silicone around it ?

I am not aware of any special seal, but I have never had that model apart.

I'm thinking that the VSS is external there right beside the single wire I'm talking about that comes out of the rear of the housing through a rubber grommet. I had hoped that the last time the idiots who dropped my trans out might have popped the grommet back into the case, but pulling on it only seems to stretch the already leaking rubber without seating any further. It only protrudes outside the case by about 1/8".
