5 speed hard to shift

I've got a 2001 4.2 with a 5 speed and have always had trouble shifting. Every clutch component has been replaced including both master and slave cylinders and no change. Since I bought the truck new in '01 I have seen many people with same issues, but never a definitive solution. Any advise would be appreciated.

I think you get the hard shifting design for no extra charge.

What are you using for fluid? You should be using ATF, I use synthetic in mine. When you rebuilt the clutch, did you replace the pilot bearing?

Yep, I did and I've replaced the fluid I think twice using Ford's recommendation, which is Mercon IV I believe.

Mercon V is the recommendation. I use a universal synthetic. SOME people have reported better luck with GM Synchromesh fluid.

It must have been Mercon V that I used than, because I was very careful to use what was specified. I've been doing a bit of research today and I'm starting to think the clutch might need bleeding. Done it before, but think possibly that I did not fully remove all air bubbles.

Reverse bleeding works best. Use a hand pump style oil can, connect it to the bleeder screw with a hose, fill it with fluid, open the reservoir and bleeder screw, and start pumping.
