Smile 4R70W 1-2 Shift Question

While home recuperating from back surgery, I have had lots of time to educate my self on the transmission in my truck, 99 F150 5.4 4x4 4R70W. I have read extensively on separator plate drilling, 1-2 accumulator issues and many others. The info provided here is outstanding and thanks to all who contribute. My truck has the delayed 1-2 shift but otherwise shifts fine even with 132000 on it, so I have a pretty good idea where to look. With the amount of info here I have gotten myself a little confused on which holes in the separator plate need to be drilled for the J-mod, and how big for my year. Anyone here willing to take a few minutes to guide me would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I love this place...

My old 2000 F150 4.6l got to the point I had to manual shift from first to 2nd then drive for 3rd and 4th. Traded it in after a week of that for my current 05 that now has 172k on it. My old 2000 the trans crapped out on the 1st to 2nd shift around 96k.

Have you eliminated engine misfires as a potential cause? Far, far more common than it being due to a transmission fault.

This is almost always the cause of these complaints. Not saying that nothing else will cause it, because there are definitely other things that can. Just saying that with no other transmission related issues going on and if it only happens at certain loads, that this is almost literally 100% of the time an ignition issue.

Hi new here. I have a 2000 Lightning and have had no issues. About a month ago it would randomly get a really bad idle when slowing to a stop. it wouldn't do it all the time but when it started it would do it every time i would stop while out on that drive. later on in the day it may not have any issues. i noticed when it would mess up i could manually shift into 2nd then 1st and it would stop. I started doing this when need be until the other day when i downshifted and then put it back in drive, it never would shift up out of 2nd. shifted from 1st to 2nd but then nothing. at the top of 2nd with rpms up its as if the accelerator would rev it up but not make the truck accelerate. i had to drive home in 2nd doing 35mph. Later that day it shifted up and down like it should until the next day it acted up again on downshift and i manually downshifted to keep it from stalling, now its back to not shifting out of 2nd to 3rd. Any info will be appreciated, just checking before i put it in the shop thanks
