05 tranny planetarys
Ok so I can pretty much work on anything but I'm not a transmission guy. I can change fluid and filter otherwise I'm ignorant. So I know my tranny in my 05 f150 4x4 needs a rebiuld. Already lost reverse and now it has a delayed clunking when moving from a stop . I pulled my loaded horse trailer yesterday and it was ok after i added somd fluud cuz it was low.Now I talked to a tranny person.he says the planetarys are going. My question is there anything I can do to keep it going till j can rebiuld. I changed the fluid once this year but it's still dirty fluid. Is there any additive that would help. Thx

No drain plug. It's usually done in a shop with an exchange machine. To do it yourself you have to disconnect cooler lines. This procedure works:

I agree with glc. Do that and make absolutely positively sure that you have the transmission full. So many think it's full when it actually isn't.
The proper way to check fluid level is to have the engine running, transmission in park, pull the dipstick, wipe the dipstick, re-insert the dipstick, pull and look at the level and make sure there are absolutely NO dry spots on either side of the dipstick. Wherever the bottom of any dry spot on the stick is, that's your fluid level.
I have topped off probably more than a hundred transmissions that people swore were full. Once even had a guy drive 7 hours for a transmission swap when all he needed was 2 quarts.
Low fluid will cause no reverse and a delayed forward engagement with a heck of a clunk. Start with the most simple and work from there no matter how silly it might sound.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the warm welcome back!
I've been around. Just got off the internet for a LONG time since I got way tired of all the associated crap. Actually, my wife got a whole lot more tired of it than I did and you know how the old saying goes about a happy wife equaling a happy life. She actually told me to start dabbling on the forums again since she knew I missed talking with you all and helping out where I could. We'll see how it goes. LOL
