1987 Ford F150 Transmission

Hello Everybody,

I recently purchased an 87 F150 (5.0). I'm going to do a transmission flush and need to know the proper oil to use. I called different auto parts stores and they all gave me different answers (Mercon, Mercon V, Dexron Mercon, Universal Tranny fluid). I did some research on this website and found the posting below:

Heavy Duty Automatics

Model: C6
Type: three speed non electronic
Years:
'66-'90 F-series
'78-'89 Bronco
'91-'96 ('97?) F-2/3/superduty
Engines:{300, 302, 351w, 351c}, {400, 351m, 460}, {6.9L, 7.3L IDI}, {352, 360, 390, ect.}
Fluid:
Pre '77: Type F
Post '77: Mercon
Display: PRND21
Pan 17 bolts "Utah" shape
Ratios:
1st 2.46:1
2nd 1.46:1
3rd 1.00:1
Trans code: K

Can anyone please tell me what the proper transmission fluid is?

Thanks for the help.

You should have an 4spd AOD transmission, regardless Mercon/Dextron is fine.

Thanks for the reply.

On the dash my transmission indicator shows
(P, R, N, D, 2, 1).

Is this a 4 speed transmission?

No, that's a C6 three speed transmission. Use MERCON.
