Unhappy 4x4 frozen

Hi all,

The transfer shift lever on my 2002 F-150 4x4 is frozen. I bought the truck last fall. It wont move at all. Any tips or ideas for a wounded vet with limited skills?

Thanks.

Can you get under the truck and visually inspect to see if there is anything causing the problem?

Yes I managed to crawl under and it all just looks rusty, but nothing bent or disconnected. I am going to pull off the lever boot and see if I can take loose the mechanism and get it out on a bench where I can look at it. I live in mid Vermont and I need the 4x4 in the winter.

Thanks Contender!

I assume this is manual shift for the transfer case? I had something similar happen on a 2000 model truck earlier this year. I soaked the shifter mechanism with penetrating oil and worked it back and forth, it worked better and would shift through all ranges of the transfer case. worse case, you can replace the shifter
