2004 f-150 wont shift into gear

2004 f-150 wont shift into gear
I have been having problems with the gear shifter for about a year
it would shift into gear after I would press on the brake and run my rpm up to abot 1500 I have checked brake lights and replaced the brake light switch on the brake peddal any suggestions please

New or old body 2004 and floor or column shift?
