1st post ever - Loose shifter?

Greetings to the best F-150 forum out there...
I have an '04 F-150 FX4 Supercab (automatic). I'm not sure if I have a loose shifter, but when the ignition is on (and brake pedal down), I can shift gears with out pressing the engage button on the shifter. No problems getting into park, drive, reverse, etc. But I don't think I used be able to shift so easily. I've always had to press the button to shift. Any suggestions on this fix?

Thanks!

Im guessing that you have the shifter on the console?

As long as it still locks when foot is off the brake it shouldnt be a big deal. You can spend about 200 bucks on a new shifter if it bothers you
