please help tranny problems

please help tranny problems

i have a 06 lincoln mark lt 4x4 and i was driving and all of sudden truck shut down and tranny failure lite came on . it starts up fine but wont go into gear but when you put it into reverse works fine its getting code p0720 any ideas im going try changing the oss sensor in little while but have feeling its not it any help thanks

Did you check the fluid level?

Look underneath, if you don't have an apparent leak, then you aren't losing fluid. So now you may have 'overfilled' and will want to drain it now. Drop your pan and change the trans screen, maybe a plugged screen will cause this issue. If so, new screen PN: F6AZ-7A098-A. Either way, it sounds to have gone into a fail-safe status so something electronic is wrong.

Check the transmission oil with the truck running.

The fluid must be checked with the engine running and the tranny warm. It's not like the engine oil.

thats how i checked it. now think theres too much is there way to test solenoids

i think theres to much fluid wonder y it shut the lights off when i added fluid. is there away to test solenoids when i drop pan

No matter what the solenoids do or do not do the trans will still move forward. If it won't move then something mechanical broke inside the transmission. It's toast.
