4R70W Job Last

At approximately 1pm on Monday, December 16, 2013, the last of the 4R70W transmissions came off the end of the line at Ford's Livonia Transmission Plant. This ended the run of all the 4R transmissions.

The 4R70W made it's debut in the Mark VIII in 1993. The 4R70W was a derivation of the AODE, which itself was an AOD with electronic controls. The AOD made it's debut in 1978.

I saw an estimate that 23 million of these transmissions were produced.

Uh. I thought the E Series vans were phased out in 2012. Isn't the Transit the replacement?

Ford is still listing the E-vans on their site - even 2014 models. You can even build and price them. Transit will be a 2015 model.

Sigh... I still hate the transit. If I could use a Van an E350 Diesel might be worth grabbing...
