250K trans gone.

Fellas
After 250K my trans (2000 4r70) went. Its going to cost 2300$ for a Reman/new Torgue Convertor, but it should last another 12 yrs. Just a heads up, the trans shop has had a 06,08 come in with less than 150K. The first gears have been going on them. For some reason Ford didnt build them like the old C6 for a truck. That could get 400K and still go on.
I have alot of Hwy, but if you are a city driver it'll of course cut down the Ks. I've rebuild a few trans in my day. But for the pain and cold back I'll pay the price. Would like to have gotten a R100 but it would take a couple of extra days I dont have.

I don't think 250k and 13 years is too bad of a run. I've had both a C4 in a 302 powered bronco and a C6 in an F250 that didn't last that long before requiring a rebuild.

Well got it back, end price 2165$. Got a lil discount for military service. Well the OD band was worn, both the plant abd sun gears were worn. The bushing wore and didn't get lubed well. Upgraded to a full 360d OD band, bigger gears and full steel band and clutches and TC. Damn feels great. Was hopping not have to spend before xmas. But only way to get home. If I get 10/12 yrs out of this one, Ill be happy.

Well your truck has been a freak of nature, so I consider it an outlier!

My buddy's dad has a 97 scab lariat with 360 some thousand miles on the original motor and trans. Best I've seen for both together- crazy. The 10th gens are better for both.

My 2000 Chebby 'burban's stocker went out around 115k and the brand new, not rebuilt, one went out around 135k. 300 miles out of warranty. It got sold after that

What in saying is if your transmission doesn't fail in 300 miles. The problem started While it was under warranty, the person between you and the remanufactured should have taken care of that.

What he is saying is it failed 300 miles after the warranty expired.

This!

But I think I understand that yes, the transmission was messed up prior to ultimate failure because it lasted for such a short period of time. But I first felt it slip right around the warranty period expiration and then by the time I had it looked at a week later, it was outside warranty. The thing actually blew with my mechanic (took it to him before the trans shop) in the truck too, sounded like a driveshaft snapping actually, but SO loud. "Scariest transmission failure in my 30 years of doing this" - mechanic lol

But it doesn't matter! Truck is my neighbor's shop truck now and I've got my F150. No more Gov't (obama) Motors

I cannot believe so many transmissions failing so soon. I had an old C6 in my mustang that got over 300K. The big problem is they are electronic, and its the computer that tells it what to do. No more put it in drive, must transmission now wont even force down shift. I also forgot that the org owner pulled a 5000 lb trailor.

Yup, as much as the new vehicles and their computers are doing amazing things with power, etc., I don't like the computers. I like simple, simple, simple so there's less to go wrong. And I wasn't even around for the old cars that were almost entirely mechanical
