No mess 1st xmission oil / filter change
I have used this method of eliminating oil mess on 1st xmission oil / filter change.
The common method of doing the oil drain when no drain plug is installed is to loosen the pan bolts carefully and allow oil to drain from one of the pan corners. I may be a slob, but that always leads to oil being spilled when I have done that.
My method that produces zero oil spilled is I do the following.
1. Opt to install a drain plug in pan that does not have one.
2. Choose where you will install the drain plug
3. Using a drill motor with a suitable tip, drive a decent sized self tapping screw into the pan in that spot. No more than 3 or 4 drops of oil will leak out befor screw bottoms and somewhat seals the hole.
4. Place sufficiently sized drain pan under newly placed screw. Remove screw and oil will drain into pan.
5. When drained, remove the now empty trans pan with no mess at all.
6. Clean up pan and install after market add on drain plug in the same location as the new hole from the screw for around 10 bux.
7. Change filter and reinstall the newly altered pan and refill wilth oil.
Done, with no mess on driveway / garage floor, and knowing next change will be much easier with no mess.
