help finding trans. accumulator piston

Hi, I have a 99 f150 auto 5.4 v8. The tranny doesn't shift right. I was told it could be the spring in the accu. piston. How do I get to the piston?

Thanks in advance!

Clean the accumulator body out, take it out and clean well with parts cleaner or something strong. They can become contaminated. There's two types of pistons, - Metal and Aluminum. Personally, I'd install a shift kit. Geezz, I can't recall where I found pistons at.. I wanna say Jegs, but I'm not sure.

Knowing which transmission is in the truck will help tremendously, it could be a 4R70W or a 4R100.

what do you mean by the "transmission doesn't shift right?", Please explain.

If it's a 4R70W, the 1-2 accumulator piston is located in the forward driver's side area. You can get to it easily after removing the pan.

The tranny hesitates. I have to really press the accelerator to get it to shift.

I think it is a 4r70w, I will have to find out this week.

Thanks for your time
