Tranny is going, what to do next?
Ok, so I have a 2001 f150 4.6l 4x4 with a 4r70w tranny that is showing some bad signs of wear, and will probably go soon. I plan on replacing the 4.6l engine with a 5.4l supercharged (lightning) in the next year. I just spent $2,000 on the truck on a new rear end and a gear swap, so I am hurtin a little right now. I am almost positive that the lightning engine is as far as I will go with mods, so the question is what solution is the best for durability and price. Swap my 4r70w with a 4r100, or get my 4r70w rebuilt to handle more abuse? If the 4r100 swap is best, what is everything required for the swap? I am pretty sure all I need for the 4r100 swap is a new wiring harness, new reprogrammed pcm, a lengthened shift cable, and a shortened driveshaft...is that right?
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!

You're asking interesting question-- too bad no takers! Especially because some of the people that visit this section are wicked smart.
I'd try posting in Supercharger, Turbocharger section of the site. Thats where the "L swap" people hang out and some of them are extremely knowledgeable. They're also very engaged and I'm sure they'll reply and try to help.
I have an '03 5.4 FX4 that I am going to put a L blower on, for the moment sticking with the 4r70w. But I've wondered about swapping for a 4r100-- the complication for you and me is the 4X4. I don't know how that works (I don't know much).
Good luck. When you figure it all out and do the mod, take a ****load of photos and make a big thread about it........
