2004 F150 Supercrew 5.4 tranny help

So here is my situation and i think i know what i have to do to fix it i just want some second opinions. I have a 2004 Supercrew Lariat 5.4l that at 82,000 miles i had to replace the engine with a brand new crate engine. Now i am at 104,000 miles and for the past year and a half it was real sparatic about once every 6-7 months it would happen. I will be driving and its not at take off or anything but i will be driving down the road at cruising speed between 45-60 and all of a sudden it sounds like someone threw the truck into nuetral and it just revs and goes no where until i drop it into second then back into drive then it is fine. However that has now happened to me 3 times in the past 4 days and i have no idea why. Pretty sure the result is going to be a transmission change but any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Check your transmission range sensor (neutral safety switch).

Yes and no. You need to watch the PRNDL output on a scanner. When it drops to N the PRNDL indication on the scan tool will probably show N. Sometimes it happens between updates on the display and you can't see it change.

I agree that you just need to replace the TRS. With that many miles it's done.
