Think my tranny gave up the ghost today

My truck kept feeling like it was running over rumble strips at 45-50 MPH. I replaced the plugs and coils. Even flushed the so-so coolant out and replaced it with some nice green Peak.

Was driving and noticed a whishing sound when it was in gear but not park/neutral. It then started shifting from 1-2 winding out really far. Got a little further and she just revved and would stall if it idled.

You should be able to have it scanned for trans codes, but not with the cheap Auto Zone scanners. Start there and maybe you'll get lucky.

How many miles?

I'm at about 165k. I could smell the fluid getting warm and it barely catches any forward gear.

I am going to check a couple things but my guess is that it's time for a rebuild.

Except the bottom of the doors it is in great shape so I can't justify replacing the truck.

Gotcha, it does sound like it's gone. burnt fluid isn't good.

Did you tow much with it? I've got 178,000 and still going good on my F-150 and about 220,000 on my Expy and zero trouble.

If it makes you feel any better, I just took off my hat and had a moment of silence for it.

Thanks buddy!!!

I never towed with it but I bought it used at like 120k. Whoever had it must have towed with it as it has a trailer break set up.

Well it is spitting fluid out of the front pump. They still have to get into it more.
