I have a 97 f150 4.2 4r70w that is dead I also have a 4r70w from mustang in good shape, can i swop them and what would it take other then changing elec shift module.

 

What year Mustang and which engine? Is your truck 4x2 or 4x4?

 

i have 97 XL long wheel base reg cab stang is a 2000 both with V6's

 

Is your truck a 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? Is the Mustang a 3.8 or 4.0?

The transmissions will physically exchange, but the electronics are different. To make a transmission from anything 98 or newer work in one 97 or older, either the bulkhead connector and internal electronics will have to be swapped or the harness on the 97 will have to be repinned to work with the newer stuff.

thanks you guys i just removed my trans goin to have to get new one or rebuild i see now lookin at it from top small end the module on the left side has 9 pins and the mustang only has 7,also stang trans has a plastic plug cover ommiting speed control mod.
well it was worth a shot,well i will be out of commission for awhile.

 

It is really easy to make that Mustang transmission work you know. The OSS (the thing you called the speed control mod) can be swapped over.

I could do the things it takes to get this done in less than half an hour and have time left for a cup of coffee. It really is that easy.
