HowTo: 97 f150 Disconnect Shifter Cable on Trans

Hi, We are doing a full 4.2l engine swap on an 97 F150 2wd with an Automatic transmission. We are pulling the engine and trans complete so we can replace the engine only from another truck (that had a manual transmission). Figured it would be easier than trying to split it on the vehicle and we can check the trans while we have it out. We spent a major portion of the day disconnecting everything possible in the engine compartment. We are now laying under the truck disconnecting the items attached to the transmission On the shifter cable where it attaches to the transmission shifter arm, there is a yellow clip that attaches the cable to the pivot point on the arm. After 30 minutes of "screwing around" with it, I can't figure out how it disconnects. It "looks" like it slides or moves off but for the life of me I can't get it to move. Any suggestions?

Get behind that yellow clip with a screwdriver or pry bar and pry straight out. It just pops off the shift lever on the transmission, ball and socket type of deal. Good luck on the swap.

If it's that easy, I'm gonna die!!! We spent a llllooonnnggg time trying to separate the clip.

Will give it a try.

It's that easy, I promise! It does take a good amount of force, may feel like you're going to break it, but should just pop off of there.
