Bad epc solenoid or naked girl?

Is this the result of a bad o ring, or a misaligned epc solenoid? It appears that the fluid blew by at high pressure and actually etched the casting!
What symptoms would this cause?
Or is this actually the normal condition of the solenoid? Hard to believe!!
O ring removed for picture. No apparent damage, maybe a little mushy.

strange almost looks like cavitation from air bubbles in the fluid.

Interesting thought. If it was my boat prop I would have recognized it as that!
History of the tranny: Factory tech valve body last 5 years. Not the separator plate kit, but the actual complete body. 100,000 + miles, no issues until the snap ring broke on the OD servo. Jammed the pressure valve in the valve body. Fluid is beautiful, clean, no metal on magnet, changed every 30K miles or so (including draining the TC). I did have a filter pop out of the bore about 4 years ago, which caused a loss of pressure, but only happened a couple of times in 1st gear take off before I pulled the pan and reseated the filter. Could be that I s'pose.
