2002 F150 Transmission slips into neutral and no reverse

On my drive home last night, my transmission slipped into neutral while i was driving ~ 30mph. I was able to get it out of "D" and into "1" which engaged and got me to a parking lot. There I went through "D", "2" and "1" where "1" gears seemed to work. I tried reverse, but that didn't engage. I was finally able to get "D" gears to work and took off on back roads home.

As I accelerated, it slipped into neutral again as it was trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. I got it back into gear in "D" and drove in 1st and 2nd gear the remaing 20 miles home.

Reverse still doesn't engage. I haven't had it slip into neutral in FWD, but I haven't driven it since getting home last night.

Its a 2002 F150 5.4L 2wheel drive SuperCrew with 107,000 miles and no history of problems. I did have a transmission flush and new filter 2 months ago.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I've been asking around and the general consensus is 1) a problem with the linkage 2) the clutch is bad or 3) i need a full transmission rebuild. Anyone have anything they can add or suggest I look at?

And you are sure that the fluid is complely full, correct?

Start with the most simple and least expensive.
