Tranny only works with od off

2002 f150 with 4r70w. Tranny started shifting really soft so I dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter. It was pretty burnt and nothing but sludge. Changed fluid and filter and it worked great for about 100 miles then I was going down the interstate doing bout 70 and went to pass someone when it downshifted and now o/d won't work. If I don't have od off, it slips out of 2nd gear into nothing. With od button pushed, it seems to go into 3rd but won't shift past that. Any ideas?

Your only chance would have been a complete fluid exchange, but it was probably too late.

OD band is used in manual 2nd as well as OD. Try putting it in manual 2nd to see if its still holding.

It's likely that the direct clutch has died.

Not good.

What is this guy talking about?
I won't click on the links until someone explains what is. I just spent the last hour removing "Gamevance" from my machine, and I'm leary of someone who joins, and makes 1 post that doesn't make sense to me, and includes links in French?

That post was spam and it's been deleted. See the red triangle in the upper right of each post? That's how you report spam.

Thanks, I did not know that. I thought maybe I was missing something, but not willing to take a chance!

Unfortunately no. The output shaft and tailhousings are completely different. The only way to make one work would be to tear it completely down to swap the output shaft from the correct 2wd transmission into it and then put on the proper tailshaft housing for what you need.
