Slipping out of OD???

My 99 F150 with the 4.6 and 4R70W is slipping out of OD.
For a while know the OD shut off button hasn't worked but I just figured it was a fuse or a bad switch, and I wasn't realy concerned cause I haven't had a trailer or heavy load in it for quite some time. Then last night it just started falling out of OD shortly after going into OD. It was late so I just got it home and went to bed.
This morining I started messing with it drained the fuid from the pan replaced with new and added a bottle of Lucas trans fix. Then I went about fixing the OD swithch. Tuned out that the fuse was blown.
When I changed the fuse the switch worked while the truck was running and in park. I took it out for a drive and it still slipped out of OD and when I hit the switch it poped the fuse again.
I pulled over changed the fuse and drove it with the OD off and it drove fine until I tuned the OD on again and it poped the fuse and started slipping out of OD again....did this a few more times and now the fuse doesn't blow it and if it starts to slip turning off the OD it goes back into 3rd but going back into OD it slips.
I fugured the OD band is burnt up and needs a rebuild, but the whole thing with the fuse blowing kinda confused me.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I scaned for codes today and didn't find any.

It poped the fuse today when I went to get out of overdrive when it started slipping agian.....replaced the fuse and was able to turn off the overdrive with it in park and the truck running.
It's going to a trans shop tomorrow, but I'm not sure if its a electrical ploblem or if its in the trany itself?????

Any sugestions please!!!

Most likely the wires to the OD switch has worn through inside the steering column where it enters the shifter handle. When you press the button it shorts and blows the fuse. You can take the plastic cover off of the column and either fix the wires or replace the shifter handle for about $50.

Yep, fix that switch first, should hopefully do it. When my o/d band went it would overrev before going into gears then grab. The fix for the time bieng was shutting off the o/d which you may not be able to do with a poo switch.

I had removed the plastic around the column and I didn't see any chafing, but I have noticed that if you hit the switch a little off to one side is when it blows the fuse.
I had to order the switch and it won't be here for a coulple of days...so I'm going to wait untill thats working right before it goes to the shop.
I have a felling the overdrive band is worn out though cause when it tries to go into od it will work for a couple of seconds and then it acts like it went into nuetral.

After doing some research (corect me if I'm wrong) I don't think it would have anyting to do with either of the shift solenoids, cause if one of them wasn't working I would be missing more that just OD. Again correct me if I'm wrong.

I know it's been a couple of days, but it you haven't found the problem yet then my opinion is that it's the OD switch. The only thing that will blow that fuse has to be in that specific circuit and not between the computer and the transmission.

Its been a while but heres an update.

The problem with the switch was the wiring going down the steering column. The bad wire was hidden quite well and it is fix now.

The trany problem was the e-clip that holds the od servo in place had broke and wasn't engaging properly which led to it burning up the over drive band. The shop that fixed it said that they were surprised that the only problem I had was od, because they found parts of the broked clip through out the trany.
Its fixed now and shifts like a dream.

i also have a 4r70w it is doing this if i'm in 4th and going 28-30mph, but only in that speed, if i'm going faster than 30mph it shiftes fine. 2 questions should i be worried and is it possible that it could be my edge( i just changed to the towing tune, and after i did that is about when this all started to happen). just to clarify it only hesitates when going from 4th-OD at 28-30mph.

thanks for the info.
