Picked up a new-used cooler today but...?

I picked up a used trans cooler today for $40. It's from a 97-03 F250, but when I got it home and looked at timskelton's pic I realize this one isn't as large as the one on his site. This one also has the tubes brazed directly to the unit, no fittings. I'm thinking I didn't get what I thought I was getting....

But....

I measured my stocker, and find that the cooling fin area is approximately 58 sq. in. (8.25" x 7"). This new one has approximately 106 sq. in (20.25" x 5.25"). Almost an 83% improvement in area should still result in a good amount more cooling.

It's not in perfect shape, but it does not leak. It has some fins folded, and the frame/tanks have typical corrosion. The mounting brackets (and where they are attached to the top "frame" rail) are also bent, but I believe that may have been done intentionally to facilitate mounting? (It was not the original cooler on this guy's truck, either.) I won't know until I pull off the grille on mine and do a trial fit.

I'm thinking that I'll sit down one evening and straighten the fins while watching some tube, and then brush the white stuff off the tanks and frame, bend things back into shape, and give it a light shot of flat black. I'm almost afraid/embarassed to post any "before" pics. Maybe I'll post a couple when I get it done.

Although.... now that I've posted all this, I'm wondering if I should have passed on it......

Neh, don't look back. I can make it work.

Andy

Used coolers scare me. I hope you flush it really well.

It was removed from his truck in working condition to exchange for a bigger one. I do want to flush it, though. Any suggestions on a method?

Napa sells cooler flush in a can, when you use it keep reversing directions.
