Tranny help

My friend just bought an 04 f150 4.6l automatic. Today it wouldnt shift out of park for about 10 minutes. After some time trying we were able to shift it out of park. I told him that it most likely was the theft deterrent system acting up, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Does anyone have any other ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Are you stepping hard on the brake? Do your brake lights work? Check your fuses. If the brake light switch is out of adjustment and the brake lights aren't coming on, the interlock won't trip.

Workaround - turn the key to the OFF (not LOCK) position, put it in neutral, then start the engine.

Hey! I just had the same problem. It isn't the fuse for the brake lights, its the fuse for the brake switch, which is the second from the top in the middle row on my truck. (Check your manual) lol. I switched a bunch of fuses but they didn't work so your friend might have done the same. But yeah, im happy I got her working again haha.
