Return line on stock cooler?

I have a 06 150 5.4, 4x4,

Is the return line on the left (passenger) side of the cooler? So the oil comes out of trans into radiator, then through the cooler and back out the passenger side of the cooler back to the trans?

That was the cooler line on my truck....but when i cut the line and started the truck to pump the oil out, more seemed to be coming from the trans side than through the cooler?

Help please! Just installing Troyer cooler and it needs to be on the return side.
Thanks!!

Your return line is the the line that DOES NOT go through the radiator.

Fluid flows FROM the tranny TO the radiator, FROM the radiator TO the cooler, and then FROM the cooler straight back TO the tranny.

Why in the world are you installing another cooler on that truck? Do you have a temp gauge that told you you were experiencing unbearable temperatures?? Your truck has a great size cooler on it to begin with and it's generally not a good idea to install two coolers in series like that. Especially if the cooler you got is a tube/fin type cooler. They're horrible about reducing pressures in the tranny which can reak havoc on a computer controlled tranny.

You did not get fluid from that line you cut because your tranny (newer trucks) has an inline thermostat in it. Fluid leaves the tranny and the first component it hits on its route to the radiator is this thermostat. If the fluid is not up to a certain operating temp (don't know the actual value, but it's relatively warm) it makes a legal u-turn at this thermostat and immediately goes back to the tranny. Very little flows through the radiator/cooler until it's warm and that thermostat opens allowing fluid flow.

Hope this helped.
