Park indicator

My park indicator dropped all the way to the bottom (low) and stays there. I searched and read all related threads but all of them mention adjustment.
My problem is the loop at the end of the wire came loose and I have no idea where it came loose from.
Also, the adjuster assembly was not attached to anything, so maybe it broke loose first?
Any help would be appreciated.

The loop attaches to the pointer. On the pointer there is a nub that the loop goes over.On the other end there is a clip that will attach to the steering colimn shroud. You will probably have to take the dash bezel off and maybe the cluster to get to the slide. Making sure that that the shifter is in park, then you pull on the cable until the pointer lines up with the "P" and you attach the the clip to the shroud. The pointer is spring loaded. A shop manual will show you how to do it.Idont have one for a 1997, but other cars I have worked on thiat is the procedure. Hope this helps

Thanks! That explains and confirms a lot of things for me. The truck has over 115K and the odometer/trip meter quit working @ 103K. The AC compressor AND door actuator has also just been replaced. Sooooooo, now either the retaining clip broke, got loose and the loop came off, or......maybe the spring broke on the pointer, dropped to low and the loop fell off.

Had to have AC, especially this summer, so spent a little over a grand there. I really hate to see how these little (and big ticket) things keep showing up, but for now, I think I'll live with them.
Hey, I'm in Homosassa...nice hearing from a local F150'r
