to put a transmission cooler on a V8 97 f150 with a manual transmission, I mostly tow a boat and a small camper every once in a while and it probably wouldn't be necessary to put one on my truck but it is more of a curiosity thing also how does a trans cooler help me in towing and daily driving

IMHO a cooler is a waste of money on your truck. A trans cooler is used to keep the oil temperatures down. The M5OD will self destruct or the clutch will slip before the oil gets hot enough to fail. Some of the ZF transmissions used on the SuperDuty have oil pumps and coolers. A friend of mine has one on his 9 second Camaro. When he launches the oil moves to the rear of the transmission and starves the input shaft bearing. He installed a pump and it forces oil over the bearing.

If you are concerned, use synthetic ATF in it.
