Over-Drive Light Is Flashing

Hello again.

I have a 1998 F-150 STX, with 115K miles on it. I bought it new back in 98. The other day I was driving and the Over Drive light started to flash. Could this flashing be caused by a sensor? Or is the tranny going out. Thanks for your help.

Take it to a shop that has a code reader that can read Ford transmission DTC's.

Yup, Ford uses the OD light as a 'check engine' light for the transmission. There is a stored code and a shop with a good code reader can get it. Autozone and the like where they use the cheapie scanners cannot and if they try they will erase the code.

So, you need to find a shop that has either a Snap On or genuine Ford scanner or similar. Make sure that they can read Ford transmission codes before letting them try.
