Boy I'm glad I found this post. Had my son change my fluid last night and we found the plug also. WE looked for an hour trying to figure out where it would go. Just finally gave up and put the pan back on and filled it with fluid. Every thing was fine afterward so we figured it was just a left over from production.

I love this forum
I am a new member and new to me owner of a '05 F150 FX4 Scab.
Of course, one of my first things to do are:
1. change the oil and filter
2. change the tranny oil and filter
I am SOOOO glad I was poking around and found this sticky - I would have freaked out if I found that plug in the pan as we just rebuilt a tranny in our other SUV...not fun for the wallet.
Worst part is that I bet you find it after you make the big oily mess, carefully carry the pan over to your drain bucket, then as you are cursing the fact you slopped some oil out of the pan during the carry...you pour the leftover pan oil into your bucket and you notice a big object plop down into your bucket-o-nasty with the thought "what the crap was that?"
Glad I did some pre-reading
