HELP - Found in Tranny Pan - 2000 F150

14bolt tranny pan - 4.6 engine

I'm in the process of changing the tranny fluid. When I dropped the pan there was a yellow plastic plug with an oring on the end in the bottom.

The piece looks like one of those "tops" you would spin when I was a kid.

Does this piece go in the bottom of tranny somewhere or do I have a bigger problem?

Any help is appreciated

it's the plug they have in the tube to keep the foreign matter out until the stick is put in at the factory. It gets shoved through, no problem. Throw it away. It means the pan has never been dropped.

Remember to fill it back up after you reinstall it...

Funny guy.

Install a drain plug. I think mine went in the front left corner, IIRC. And seal it up real good. Blue RTV, JB Weld, etc.

BTW, that little yellow plug has been the source of many a raised eyebrow, mine included.

You need to head to your nearest Ford dealer to have the o-ring decoded to see if you have won a 74 Pinto or a 76 Gremlin!
