I WAS WONDERING IF YOU CAN CHANGE THE TAILSHAFT FROM A 1994 4 wheel DRIVE 5SPEED TO 2 WHEEL DRIVE 5 SPEED AND IT WORK. I WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE DONE. I HAVE ACCESS TO A 2 WHEEL DIRVE BUT DON'T KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE, LIKE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE THAT KNOWS. THANKS

No. The extension housing on the 4x4 transmission is actually an adapter which allows you to bolt the transfer case to the transmission. Do you mean to try and use the extension housing from a M5OD-R2 two wheel drive transmission on BW-4406 transfer case?

Your statement is ambiguous.

On a 4x4 drive train; After the engine comes the 4x4 transmission (4A) then the extension housing/adapter(4B). The Transfer case(4C) bolts to the transmission extension housing/adapter (4B). On the driveshaft end of the transfer case is the extension housing(4D). The driveshaft slip yoke(4E) slides into the transfer case extension housing(4D).

On a 4x2 drivetrain; the transfer case is eliminated. The 4x2 transmission(2A) is bolted to the engine block and the transmission extension housing(2B) is bolted to the transmission. The driveshaft slip yoke (2C) slides into the transmission extension housing(2B).

If I understand you correctly want to install the 4x2 transmission extension housing(2B) onto the transfer case (4C) in place of the transfer case extension housing (4D).

what i need to know is if the extension housing -adapter off of my 4x4 transmission will fit a 2 wheel drive transmission. i am also wondering if the tail shafts are the same or if they have different splines. i have access to a two wheel drive transmission that i am wondering if i can use with the 4 wheel drive housing -adapter to mate to my transfer-case. i understand that i have to remove the 2 wheel drive extension housing and bolt the 4 wheel housing in its place. i am wondering if it possible to do this before i purchase the transmission. thank you for your help

OK, you cannot use the 4x2 transmission in place of the 4x4 transmission. The output shaft on the 4x4 transmission is shorter to accommodate the 4x4 adapter. You would have to disassemble the transmissions and swap the output shafts.
