Do you have your maintenance schedule booklet? If not you can download it in pdf form here: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdi...&VEHICLE=F-150

It says 150k , that seems way to high for me.

This shows changing fluid every 30k miles under nromal driving conditions. I know I've seen somewhere that 100k fluid change was recomended but I cannot find where now.

I'm currently sitting at 45k and will be having the fluid changed some time in the near future. I'm still debating if I want to drop the pan and change the filter or wait until 100k for the filter change.

Is the general opinion NOT to flush these trannies? With a pan drop and filter change how much fluid needs to be re-added?

I had my tranny flushed at 50k km's, and the next time will be at 100k, along with the coolant. Just did the wife's Focus. It hit 100k so it was tranny and coolant time. I like the longlife coolant (yellow stuff) Ford uses anyway.

How else would you change fluid without dropping pan?

wreedKR,

Below is my Maintenance Schedule. Keep in mind that it is only a suggestive guideline. Check your transmission dipstick. But at only 30K miles, it may be a bit early for you to change your transmission fluid.

How else would you change fluid without dropping pan?
You could flush it. I bought a Mag Hytec pan w/ a magnetic drain plug. All that I have to do is open the drain plug. It doesn't get out all 18 quarts. Only flushing will do that since my torque converter does not have a drain plug. But it empties the pan and allows me to add 8 fresh quarts.

No it doesn't. Read closely; at 150k it suggests changing the auto tranny and transfer case fluid. Notice it doesn't suggest changing the tranny fluid at the same time. It also suggests changing the filter at 150. The other column mentions nothing about a filter.

So every 30k under harsh driving they just want you to drop pan, drain, and replace lost fluid?

Again, read it. I'm not sure where you're seeing that. I see "change fluid" every 30k.

I have 70k km's on my truck, and I've yet to change the fuel filter, so I don't always follow those suggestions to a T.

That would be correct, but that doesn't mean you need to drop the pan. Most Ford dealers just do a flush, and they don't go anwhere near the pan, or filter, at least not until 150k.
