Kovalsky's ATF change instructions: why not at the cooler?

http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/i...nsmission.html

Are there any drawbacks from performing the TC purge at the transmission cooler instead of taking the return line off the at the transmission?

With the exception of some old fluid left in the return line, it seems like it would be easier to disconnect the cooler supply side and purge from there.

Any thoughts?

It really doesn't matter much. The procedure he posted is from the factory service manual, that's how it was originally written.

However, doing it at the return line serves to ensure that the lines themselves are also flushed with new fluid, matter of a small volume of fluid.

I agree with Steve. It really doesn't matter. I didn't want to complicate the procedure by giving options on where to open the lines.
