Question 05 F150 interesting OD problem

Ok I have used the search and checked through the forums and couldn't find anything like this.
My Father has a 2005 F150. While driving when it goes into OD the trans will slip in and out of nuetral. Turn off overdrive and it's fine.
Now here's the Interesting part. It doesn't do it all the time maybe once or twice a week.
It can go a couple of weeks without any problems and then act up a couple of times in the same day.

He took it to the dealer to have it checked out and they said they could not duplicate the problem. When he was driving it home from the dealer it did it again. he turned around and took it back and it stopped doing it.
I think it's pretty safe to say the truck is not possessed and he doesn't have a Gremlin infestation so does anyone here have any ideas?

interesting OD problem

what your dad is experiencing is a common problem ... converter lock up issues are usually not difficult to diagnose ... when the OD light is flashing, the concern is happening at that time ... even if the dealership can not duplicate the concern, there should be codes stored in the PCM ... it will be a PO7xx code ... the dealership also has a tool called a "flight recorder" ... it hoks into the ALDL connector ... the tool records what the PCM sees ... when the trans acts up, you push a button ... it records 30 seconds prior to the button activation, and the next 30 ... then the dealership can play it back and "see" exactly what happened ... honestly, it sounds like your dad needs to find another dealership - Jack

How many miles on it, and has the tranny fluid ever been changed? If it's got more than 30k on it, go get a fluid exchange with a machine.

There is another thread where a guy is having the same problem. I will watch it to see if he has any luck and let you know. Also let us know what you find out on this one.

I have a 2005 F150 supercrew with a 5.4; with 92K on it. Have had no problems with truck until this week. The same scenario with the truck going out of OD. I have however isolated the issue and the cause. It happens everytime I go into the car wash and the it blasts the undercarriage. It is definitely a moisture issue. Unknown what plugs or controllers are vulnerable to the moisture. If anyone has a clue????? Will be going to the dealer tomorrow. Also, the OD light does not flash, no code is being thrown.
