shifting problem in snow

ok, this has happened before, when its slushy out

truck is a 2006 supercrew 5.4 liter 4X4 f150 XLT

so the problem is, sometimes the column shifter wont let me go into reverse or park, it will go through most of the gears, 1 2 D N, im thinking something like snow is building up somewhere on the tranny, some linkage maybe? so wheres the linkage? can you reach it if you lie down on the side? now im only guessing its slush building up somewhere and not letting me shift, and tonight when i got home, it was being better, where before it wasnt letting me get into reverse or park, now the Park was Reverse, so i had to Park it in reverse with the ebrake on, this is so annoying, anyone help?

I think your guess is correct. It is building up with ice or hard snow under there. You would have to crawl under the truck and have someone move the shift lever while you watch what moves and you will figure out what is what with the linkage. I don't have any hands on with anything that new, but you should find the linkage on the drivers side of the transmission.

ok so, update

truck dies on me coming over the bridge during rush hour, check guages in on the screen, and i coast it down over the bridge, into the first exit i can, call ford roadside assistance, and they tow it, i havent yet gotten it back and this happened on monday the 5th of jan. apparently there was actually something wrong with the shifter, even though it only happened when it was slushy out, aparently theyre waitin for some parts, ill see when i get it back what they changed, and what happened to it for it to just, die. im a commercial transport mechanic, so i do have a understanding of what can go wrong, but modern cars are a whole 'nother species sometimes

My '05 with 70K on it recently wouldn't shift into or out of park intermittently when on my hill of a driveway. I took it in under warranty and they replaced the shifter assembly (I have the center console floor shifter) do to excessive slop. I haven't had an issue since.

yeah, they had a **** load of problems they fixed now, the column shifter problem they said had nothing to do witht he snow, id ont know about that since the only 2 times it happened was when there was snow flying up there and i dont think its a coincidence, so they replaced that, and fixed the harness which was the problem with it dying on me, and they replaced the battery, so all in all i was without it for a week or so, and they fixed it all, i want a f350 now
