Unhappy brown and black wires from tranny cut...

I just bought a 04 f150 supercab and I was lookin up under it to see where the fuel filter is and i happened to notice two wires a black and brown one comin from the tranny that were either cut or broken. So i connected them and drove around for alittle and nothin happened and i tryed 4 hi and lo and nothin happened... Can anyone tell me what those wires are for and why they might have been cut!??!?
