1st - 2nd shift Intermittent problem

I think i have a trans problem... I have a 2005 f150 supercrew lariat 5.4L with 18,000 miles. When the truck is cold it shifts smooth, but when it gets to normal operating temp. it sometimes shifts a little hard or should i say not smoothly from 1st to 2nd. Also sometimes there seems to be a slight grind sound for half of a second. Now it does not happen all of the time, but i think it could become a bigger problem soon... Anybody have any comments or suggestions to what it could be????

I assume you have checked the fluid, and it's full, clean, and doesn't smell burnt?

18k miles is hardly anything, but it's 4 years old and a transmission fluid replacement wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hey DAKU...Mine is similar I think. I will be starting out somewhat slow (not stepping on it/punching it) from a stop, I can feel the transmission almost stutter when it goes from 1st to 2nd. After that, the rest of the gears seems to shift smooth to where you can't really tell its shifting. It doesn't do it all the time either... Is that similar to yours?

neilh31, Those are exactly my symptom, like glc said I'm going to check the fluids but I'm sure they are ok cause the dealer just did an engine oil change and checked and topped up all fluids.... Anybody else have this kind of an issue???

Thumbs down

Same issue here and also a buddy of mine back home has the same issue with his 05' F150. I have owned my truck since 19000 miles and currently 68000 miles. I have had the tranny flushed twice, had the dealership look at it 3 times and no feedback. It's the 1-2 tranny shutter but if I let the truck shift after 2500 rpms it won't do it. Hope to here some feedback on how to re-solve this issue. Bill from PHP is also looking into it.
